Walk around Rome

The famous steps of over Piazza di Spagna
Last saturday we were really lucky with the weather in Rome.
Friday seemed to have brought in one of the most hardcore torrential rains in a while that by the next day had mysteriously vanished. The weather was warm, we strolled around the streets with light jackets and had a beautiful light to photograph.
So iPhone clad I instagrammed my way silly.

Rome’s nightlife HERO!
Antonio runs one of the most sought after bakeries in the capital!
This place has a huge queue flowing out of it throughout the night, romans just can’t get enough of his delicious creations!
The most famous dish is the: Sorchetta Doppio Schizzo, a cream glazed doughnut drenched in Nutella…Yes REALLY!
And the rest you can view and judge for yourself from the pictures of my after party escapade…he was sweet enough to make me come behind the counter and check out the sweet scene from up close
Sorchetta for ever! :)

This past weekend I decided to go down to Rome to meet up with some friends. Rome is by far my favorite city in all Italy. I love the spirit of it, it’s beauty and just the general way romans lead their life. Up North in Milan people seem to be very work-focussed and a bit n the snob side, in Rome its a whole other story, everyone is smiling, and has a more positive take on life (ok, maybe I’m exaggerating and I’m sure there are easy going Milanese peeps too, but its just my generalization of how I see it).
The weather was fantastic, warm and breezy, with a gazillion pollens flying around which induced me to blow my nose every 2 minutes – Got to love Spring… ;)
Culturally this time I didn’t visit any of the monuments, since I spent quality time with friends. Which included eating fantastic fish at OTTAVIO, having a drink at SOFIA, and then helping out my friend Carlo prepare a 40 people dinner he held on his terrace. Lovely.
Hope everyone had a great weekend too!

Restaurant Review – Taverna Trilussa Trastevere
March 9, 2012 § 3 Comments
Was meant to post this a couple of days ago, but had some minor issues with my internet situation here in Milan…Taverna Trilussa was chosen by my friend Carlo who adores the place and really wanted us to go there, the restaurant is situated in the Trastevere neighborhood of Rome, the more Bohemienne part of the city. Theres a real buzz when walking along the street, a young nice crowd. As we walked in the restaurant I understood it was an “in” place to be at, we were surrounded by young festive groups, I hardly saw any tourists, we were seated inside as we reserved quite late that evening, even though outside would have been “prettier”. The food was really delicious, and I will definitely try to come back when Im next in Rome, as antipasto I shared a Mozzarella di Bufala, Affettati misti and a Bruschetta, as a main course Chiara and I decided to share two different plates: Ravioli Mimosa that won 2 competitions for best Ravioli and Tagliolini al Tartufo here (Truffles) – lets just say it was all divine!

On sunday my childhood friend Carlo (who has been living in Rome for the past year, and who kindly invited me to stay over at his place whilst Chiara left to Aix en Provence) , invited me to the lunch a dear friend of his was giving at his house outside rome. The location of the place was absolutely stunning, from the views to the colors, the areas is called Maremma Laziale, surrounded by Italian hills and gorgeous sceneries. I am so happy I was able to join them, the whole episode was really fun and the food was delicious. Saverio, Carlo’s friend, cooked for us Tagliatelle with wild boar ( that he caught the previous sunday!), for those who have never tried wild boar you must! One of the most flavorful meats around! For dessert Saverio gave us an apple cake, which Im not sure if he baked it himself (?)
stay tuned for photos of our walk post-lunch

HASSLER HOTEL
For our trip to Rome, Chiara’s mother was kind enough to invite us to stay at the legendary Hassler Hotel in Rome, located just above the famed Spanish Steps. The hotel oozes luxury, the staff is super caring and really try their best to please us during our stay. (They were also very helpful when I had a minor accident in the bath tub, they were plaster and antiseptic ready, and asked me a gazillion times if I was ok). The room we were given was amazing, over looking the north side of Rome, with our very own living room and small terrace. This Hotel really took our Roman Experience to a whole other level, even though some might find it to be a little bit too old school, honestly It’s worth staying there! For those who really want to experience old Italian luxury and feel pampered by the kindness of their staff, this is the best!
Style: Italian & lux
Hotel Philosophy: “Elegance, style, the highest quality service and discretion have made the Hassler Roma the very symbol of international hospitality”

Restaurant Review: Ar Galletto -Rome
March 6, 2012 § 2 Comments
After walking for a while along the pretty roman street, Chiara and I decided to head to one of my favorite lunch places in Rome. “AR GALLETTO” a typical roman tavern, a top choice of many roman friends. Since the weather was a lovely 20 degrees we were seated outside on their street terrace, perfect for observing the nearby walkers going up and down in Piazza Farnese! The food is delicious so simple yet so tasty, especially their meats!
One of our 3 starters – Mozzarelle di Bufala
Prosciutto Crudo
Bresaola with Parmesan cheese
As a main both Chiara and I had Straccetti with Rughetta! Delicious!

Sorry for disappearing, my internet situation has been pretty precarious here in Italy, just got back to Milan from Rome, happy to be in my home town again, its been a while!
One of my favorite places to pass by in Rome each time I visit is Campo de Fiori, 5 mins walk from Piazza Navona and next to my favorite restaurant Ar Galletto. Here every day apart from sundays happens the cutest local market in Rome. Nothing better than surrounding one self with an array of different colors all at once!
Pass by it, next time your in town!
